TOBIAS HERZOG

Philosophy

"In my work, I blur the lines between sound and vision, believing deeply that music, sound design, and visual art are not separate entities but parts of a greater whole. My philosophy centers on the fusion of these elements to create immersive experiences that engage all senses. I see no distinction between film scores and sound design; to me, they are unified components of a singular composition, with visuals playing an integral role. This holistic approach allows me to explore the limitless possibilities of audiovisual art, aiming to evoke deep emotional responses and provoke thought."

Biography

Tobias Herzog, born 1992 in Basel, composes music and sound design for stories. As a percussionist, he performed on stages throughout Europe. These experiences led to his studies at the Bern University of the Arts from 2013 to 2018, where he received his master's degrees in sound art. In 2015, he completed an internship at the renowned "idee und klang studio," providing him the opportunity to participate in major film productions, such as "Heidi" and "The Diary of Anne Frank." Consequently, commissions for musical compositions and audiovisual productions for dance, theater, and film followed.

In 2020, he began his master's degree in film at the Hochschule Lucerne, which he successfully completed in 2024. This master's program provided him with a deeper understanding of the aesthetic design of filmmaking, enhancing his ability to collaborate effectively with filmmakers. Between 2020 and 2024, he worked on several film projects as a sound designer and film composer.

In addition to music, he also performs as a VJ with his self-created visuals, which are heavily influenced by Visual Music. Through this, he translates his musically learned strategies into a visual medium. His solo project "Clockworked" combines electronic music with film-musical elements and visuals.
